Research Project for BALTEN
After several successful projects on the mainland, EMICA SOLAR lands in Tenerife to build the first floating photovoltaic plant in the Canary Islands. This pilot project, promoted by BALTEN, aims to analyze the floating technology and quantify the improvements it offers compared to the terrestrial one.
The 102 bifacial panels of 550 Wp with a tilt angle of 25º on the San Antonio reservoir in the municipality of La Matanza form a 56kW plant where the main variables related to energy production will be measured. A small 3.6kW plant on the ground next to the reservoir will allow the comparison between the floating and the ground mounted plant.
In addition to 6 standard trimarans, the plant includes a “half trimaran” specifically designed to meet the project’s power needs. Another particular feature of the installation is its mooring system. The adaptation of the plant to water level variations of up to 11 meters is done thanks to an elastic mooring system. This system, which incorporates a Seaflex elastomer, allows the lines to remain tensioned regardless of the water level, requiring no maintenance.
